Why The Dark Knight Will Be The Greatest Film… Ever:

Congratulations! You’ve all been waiting 700 days for The Dark Knight since it was officially announced back in 2006. Now, with only 30 days to go, we will soon be rewarded with the ultimate superhero adventure.

We at Quickflix don’t think we’re exaggerating when we claim that The Dark Knight will one day be regarded as the Citizen Kane of 2008.

Cynics may scoff – memories of Batman and Robin scorched in their brain.

Here are our arguments why The Dark Knight will rock our collective socks off:

1. Heath Ledger is The Joker

When the casting announcement was officially made back in 2007, there was a lot of doubt about whether or not the WA-born actor could pull it off. But then we saw the first picture of Ledger in the hobo/clown garb, and all doubters were silenced. His untimely death earlier this year has made this his final completed role. However, with heavy buzz about a possible posthumous Oscar nomination, the role will definately serve as a fitting tribute to one of the great Australian actors.

2. Christian Bale is Batman

Christian Bale isn’t exactly a household name (certainly not along side the likes of Clooney, Pitt, and let’s face it, Kilmer). But why not! This guy has been in some of the best movies of the last decade, including American Psycho, 3:10 to Yuma and Rescue Dawn . He makes Bruce Wayne seem like a real person, and this is a crazy billionaire who dresses like a bat. A BAT!

3. A Less Lame Two-Face

Now, I like Tommy Lee Jones as much as the next guy. But his performance as physically scarred villain Two-Face from Batman Forever wasn’t exactly…subtle.

This time around, Thank You For Smoking’s Aaron Eckhart wears the prosthetics, and although we haven’t been given a lot of info about his new look, this clip looks pretty tantalising:

4. Katie Holmes Not Reprising Role from Batman Begins

Good Movie minus Bad Actress (Katie Holmes) = Better Movie.
Better Movie plus Good Actress (Maggie Gyllenhaal) = Great Movie.
It’s just simple math.

5. Director Christopher Nolan Has Never Made a Bad Movie.

Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, Batman Begins. Bad films just aren’t in this guy’s blood.

6. No Awful Theme Song

Spiderman had ‘Hero’ by Chad Kroeger. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 had ‘Ninja Rap’ by Vanilla Ice. No matter how awesome Casino Royale was, even that had an opening theme by Chris Cornell. Thankfully, The Dark Knight is theme song free. We are willing to admit however, that “Kiss From A Rose” was pretty great.

Seal: not awful
7. No Nipple Suit

Some pictures don’t even need a caption.
The Dark Knight opens July 17, 2008.
