Ladies and gentleman, its been two very, very long years, but it’s finally here. The Dark Knight opens today in cinemas everywhere, two days before even the U.S gets a glimpse.
I’m sure that in the future, our children will ask us where we were the day The Dark Knight came out. Of course, if the answer is anything but “Seeing The Dark Knight”, then your children have every right to be ashamed of you. And you would just have to deal with it.
Even before the film has been released, the entire movie-going public are pretty much admitting that it will be one of the greatest films of all time. Film website Moviefone has named Heath Ledger‘s Joker as the 5th greatest villain of all time. The film also has the third highest advance ticket sales of all time, trailing only Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Now I am NEVER one to hyperbolise, but I think it’s safe to say that after seeing The Dark Knight, all films ever released prior will now be seen as distractions made to kill time until DK , and all films released after will be a poor attempt to achieve it’s lofty heights of excellence.
The big question is how much The Dark Knight will make over the three-day-weekend in the U.S. Warner Bros is predicting $100 million, which is laughably low. Could it beat Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($131 million) or even the current champ Spiderman 3 ($151 million)? Yes – let’s make a call right now – $160 million.
So, I hope everyone makes it out there and enjoys the film – let us know what you thought in the comments section below – Did it meet your expectations? How was Heath? Was Two-Face cool? Is this the greatest Batman/Superhero film ever? Should it be nominated for Best Picture as some critics are saying?
The Dark Knight, is and will continue to be amazing for the rest of time! Better buy you Dark Knight action figures before they are all snatched up…these things will be worth some coin well after the movie takes a place on the shelf in every common home!
