Skadoosh! Kung Fu Panda 2 in the Works

Everyone’s favourite kung-fu fighting, over-eating, Jack Black-sounding panda is heading back to cinemas, with a sequel slated for June 2011.

Kung Fu Panda was one of the year’s biggest and most surprising hit, making over $600 million worldwide. That’s even more money than WALL-E made! (Don’t get me started…)

I thought Kung Fu Panda was pretty damn good, and possibly the only non-Pixar CG animation worth watching. Sorry Shrek fans, but those films really don’t hold up.

Jack Black and Angelina Jolie have signed on to reprise their roles, and hopefully favourites such as Dustin Hoffman, Seth Rogen and David Cross will also return.

Kung Fu Panda 2 (suggested subtitle: The Quickening) will also be in 3-D. Sure, sound high-tech NOW, but by 2011 we’ll have already been blown away by Toy Story 3 in three glorious dimensions.

On another note, KFP screenwriters Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger are reteaming with Jack Black for a live-action film that sounds pretty promising. Black plays an amnesiac who washes up on the beaches of Cuba. He immediately thinks he is a superspy like the forgetful Jason Bourne, although he couldn’t be further from the truth.
