Bruce Springsteen and Clint Eastwood in an Oscar battle royale to the death!

Last week I had all but decided (and it is my decision) that Clint Eastwood would be walking home with the Best Original Song Oscar for his raspy piano ballad Gran Torino.

Of course, that was until I heard the full version of Bruce Springsteen‘s track for Darren Aronofsky‘s film The Wrestler.

I think it’s safe to say these two vets are a lock for Oscar nominations (unless High School Musical 3 sweeps the category). The question is, which legend will the Academy congratulate?

Eastwood’s track is haunting and touching, and seems to be sung from the perspective of the damaged lead character.

But Springsteen’s song is … haunting, and also … touching, and Springstreen is singing from the perspective of the …. damaged … you know where I’m going here.

To be honest, I love ’em both. Give them both Oscars dammit!

Let us know what you think after hearing the tracks below!

Listen to Gran Torino here.

Listen to The Wrestler here.
