Scott Pilgrim vs Superman, The Human Torch, and Ann Veal – Meet the whole cast!

source: hollywoodreporter.com

The major cast of Edgar Wright‘s upcoming film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has finally been revealed, and it has talented young performers up the yin yang.

The film is an adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s hilarious and action packed Scott Pilgrim graphic novels. Michael Cera stars as Pilgrim, a young Canadian slacker and bass player for band Sex Bob-omb. He falls in love with the mysterious Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), but he must first defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends before she can be his.

We reported last week that Kieran Culkin had joined Cera and Winstead in the Toronto-based production. Since then a flurry of casting announcements have landed, filling up the remainder of the major roles.

So please enjoy our comprehensive guide to the Scott Pilgrim vs the World cast!

Scott Pilgrim – Michael Cera

Although Mikey Cera is the hottest young actor on the planet right now, it will be interesting to see if he can pull this role off. The character is a swaggeringly arrogant yet sweetly lovable guy. There are also plenty of fight and action sequences for him to sink his teeth into. This ain’t Juno, kid. But how can you not have faith in George Michael Bluth?

Ramona Flowers – Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Most recognisable as Lucy McClane in Die Hard 4.0, Winstead has been building an impressive filmography over the last couple of years. She has the right mix of sass, vulnerability and detachment to play Ramona – and it helps that she’s ridiculously out of Cera’s league.

Wallace Wells – Kieran Culkin

Ultra-sarcastic Kieran Culkin is perfect for ultra-sarcastic Wallace Wells. It’s likely the casting director employed Culkin based purely on his performance in Igby Goes Down. As Scott’s gay roommate, Wallace is a fan fave, so Kieran is under pressure to bring his A-game.

Knives Chau – Ellen Wong

When the book begins, Knives is Scott’s 17-year-old girlfriend. She is eventually blindsided by Ramona, but this quiet Chinese-Canadian sticks around much to everyone’s chagrin. Ellen Wong is so new on the scene, this was the only picture of her I could find. To get such a big role so early in her career is impressive, so she must have something special going on for her.

Envy Adams – Brie Larson

Envy Adams is Scott’s maniacally evil ex girlfriend. Brie Larson currently stars as Toni Collette‘s daughter in the Steven Spielberg-produced, Diablo Cody-written television show The United States of Tara. We haven’t got this show in Oz yet, so it’s hard to comment on Larson’s talent. However, from the looks of the above picture, I think they’ve found the perfect match.

Stephen Stills – Mark Webber

Stephen Stills (as he must always be referred to) is the lead singer and guitarist for Sex Bob-omb. Mark Webber has popped up in a lot of indie projects over the last decade (including Todd Solondz‘s Storytelling and Jim Jarmusch‘s Broken Flowers), and this might be just the breakout role he needs.

Kim Pine – Alison Pill

This is an interesting choice for Kim Pine, drummer for Sex Bob-omb, ex-girlfriend of Scott and hater of all humanity. Alison Pill starred as Steve Carrell‘s daughter in Dan in Real Life, and also appears in the upcoming Milk. She’s definitely a great actress, and it’ll be good to see her shed her sweet outer layer for the project.

Young Neil – Johnny Simmons

Another actor who has played Steve Carell’s son, Johnny Simmons will portray Sex Bob-omb’s number one fan (and Scott Pilgrim idoliser) Young Neil. Ironically, Simmons is two years older than Cera.

Stacey Pilgrim – Anna Kendrick

Starring as Scott’s sister Stacey is Anna Kendrick. Let’s get this out of the way first – she was in Twilight. But don’t hold that against her! She’s only in it for a few minutes. She’ll next be seen alongside George Clooney in Jason Reitman‘s Up in the Air (as the lead, no less!) As far as likenesses go, Anna/Stacey takes the cake.

Julie Powers – Aubrey Plaza

Julie is Stephen Still’s on again/off again girlfriend, and the bane (albeit one of many) of Scott’s existence. Aubrey Plaza is generating some buzz after being cast in Judd Apatow’s upcoming Funny People. The stand-up comic is supposedly quite hilarious, so another good choice here.

Matthew Patel – Satya Bhabha

Bhabha stars as Matthew Patel, evil ex-boyfriend number 1. Has mystic super powers and can summon Demon Hipster Girls when necessary. Bhabha is rumoured to have beaten Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel to the role. Impressive, no?

Lucas Lee – Chris Evans

Yes! Chris Evans is in a good film for once! Evans is an incredibly talented actor (see Sunshine), but he has been tied up in terrible, terrible super hero films for too long. Here he stars as evil ex-boyfriend number 2, Lucas Lee. Lee is a pro-skateboarder turned sell-out movie star. Sound like anyone you know?

Todd Ingram – Brandon Routh

Genius. Cast Superman himself as evil ex-boyfriend number 3, Todd Ingram. Although currently dating Envy, he still has time to battle Scott for Ramona’s hand. Except he has special Vegan mind powers, so that makes things a bit tricky. Get Routh in more comedies damnit!

Roxanne Richter – Mae Whitman

Bland Ann Veal herself stars as Ramona’s college roommate, and, ahem, 4th evil ex-boy(girl)friend, Roxy Richter (sorry, couldn’t get a pic!). It’ll be interesting to see Whitman work a feistier character than she’s accustomed, but something tells me she is more than perfect. Hopefully the sexual tension between her and Cera from Arrested Development is carried over into this flick!

So there we are. It’s an impressive cast, and I don’t think they could have lined up a better director for the project. I can barely wait to see the finished product. Now we just need them to start shooting.

Done yet?!!!!

In the meantime, check out the comics and look forward to Volume 5, released next month.
