Jonah Hill’s million dollar pay day

Superbad star and comedy writer Jonah Hill has sold a script entitled “The Adventurer’s Handbook” to Universal Pictures for an impressive seven figure sum.

The script is a comedy about four pals who travel the world in search of adventure, inspired by Mick Conefrey’s The Adventurer’s Handbook. Jason Schwartzman will co-star alongside Hill as two of the four friends.

Hill co-wrote the script with Matt Spicer and Max Winkler (yes, Arthur Fonzarelli’s son), and also managed to attach Akiva Schaffer to direct (Hot Rod, SNL). Fun fact: Schaffer is the third, rarely seen member of The Lonely Island (which also includes SNL writer Jorma Taccone and SNL star Andy Samberg). They’ve got a chart hit at the moment with Jizz in My Pants. Yeah, I know you’ve heard it.

Three studios fought over the rights to the project, with Universal Pictures prevailing. Universal previously produced Knocked Up, which co-stars Hill. He will also appear in the upcoming Judd Apatow comedy Funny People, a joint production from Universal/Columbia. To complete the chain, Columbia brought Superbad to screens.

Jonah Hill is one of the most talented comedy actors around, and he has spent far too long in supporting roles. Since his great little performance in The 40-Year-Old Virgin as eBay Customer, he’s been on my radar. Hill has made terrible movies (Evan Almighty, Accepted) watchable, based on his roles alone. Give this man more money!
