Just last month it was believed that Samuel L. Jackson would hang up the eye-patch and not reprise his performance as Nick Fury in Marvel’s upcoming slate of superhero films.
However, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Jackson is signed for nine more pictures with Marvel in an unprecedented deal. Jackson will play the agent of S.H.I.E.L.D in Iron Man 2, Captain America, The Avengers and its sequels.
There is also the possibility that Jackson will topline a S.H.I.E.L.D movie currently in development.
In recent years, comic artists based Nick Fury’s look on Jackson himself. Therefore, he was obviously the fan favourite to take on the role in Marvel’s feature films. He appeared in the post-credits sequence of Iron Man, establishing the Avenger’s Initiative, and pointing towards a coexisting universe of Marvel heroes.
To what extent we will see Fury in the upcoming films (and whether or not there will even be nine films for him to star in) is unknown. However, any news of Marvel locking down actors is a relief. They’re not really good at doing that usually.
