Director Michel Gondry is in negotiations to direct the Seth Rogen-penned adaptation of The Green Hornet after months of speculation that the film was to be abandoned.
Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express) joined the project back in 2007, with Rogen set to star in the lead role.
Stephen Chow was originally tapped to direct as well as star as the Green Hornet’s sidekick Kato, a role originally made famous by Bruce Lee.
Chow reportedly dropped out of directing following creative difficulties with Rogen and Goldberg. Now it looks as if Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry will step in to bring us a very unique action movie.
The Green Hornet has got to be one of the most interesting films currently in development. Rogen’s involvement alone has me excited, and I’m pretty impressed with the left-of-center directors that have been approached.
Columbia Pictures still intend to make the picture one of their tentpole releases of 2010.
