Johnny get your gun – Depp and Bale face off in Public Enemies

The first official trailer for Michael Mann’s upcoming gangster flick Public Enemies has exploded onto the web. It stars Johnny Depp as the notorious criminal John Dillinger and Christian Bale as the FBI agent intent on hunting him down.

It has been four years since Mann has helmed a feature film, and arguably five years since he made a good one. However, it’s hard not to look forward to his work. Public Enemies looks like a riveting action thriller like only The Mann can make.

No offence to Marion Cotillard, but in a cast featuring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, it’s kind of depressing that she’s the lone Oscar winner.

I’m not completely sold on the concept of filming a 1920’s set film digitally. It just doesn’t feel like a period film. But as a thriller … (motions with hand to mouth and makes kissing noise)!

The film also stars This is England‘s Stephen Graham as Baby Face Nelson, Channing Tatum as Pretty Boy Floyd, David Wenham as Pete Pierpont and Giant Naked Blue Man as J. Edgar Hoover. Not to exclude the ladies, Public Enemies also features new It-Girl Carey Mulligan and former It-Girl Leelee Sobieski. It opens 30th July in Australia.
