At the box office at least. Paramount and Dreamworks have officially announced that Transformers 3 will hit cinemas July 1st 2011, only two weeks before Harry Potter 7 and three weeks before Captain America debuts. The involvement of Michael Bay, Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox has not yet been confirmed. Starscream was unavailable for comment.
UPDATE: Apparently – someone forgot to tell Michael Bay about the Transformers 3 release date. Check out this quote from his official website.
“Wait a minute! I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 – they asked me on the phone – I said yes to July 4 – but for 2012 – whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.”
Will Transformers 3 be moved to 2012 instead, or will Paramount continue without Bay? Obviously, it will be the former. Anyway, back to the previous report.
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen opens in the US on July 26th this year, a full month after its biggest box office competitor Terminator Salvation. However, the franchise may have to work a little harder in 2011, as it faces off against Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part One) on July 15th and The First Avenger – Captain America on July 22nd.
It’s strange that the three most anticipated films of 2011 will all open within four weeks of one another. Expect a billion dollar box office extravaganza in 07/11.
In other future news, Spiderman 4 will debut in the first week of May 2011. It’s gonna be a big year.
What 2011 feature are you looking forward to most? Transformers 3? Harry Potter 7? Captain America? Spiderman 4?
