Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley has signed on to star as Freddy Krueger in the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The iconic horror film is being rebooted by Michael Bay‘s production company Platinum Dunes, who were behind this year’s Friday the 13th and The Unborn.
Haley, who recently portrayed crazed vigilante Rorschach in Zack Snyder‘s Watchmen, has long been a fan favourite to don the striped sweater.
The former child star re-entered the public consciousness with an Oscar-nominated performance in 2006’s Little Children. He will next be seen in Martin Scorcese‘s Shutter Island as a patient of a mental institution.
The role of dream-haunting Freddy Krueger was originally inhabited by Robert Englund.
A Nightmare on Elm Street will be helmed by music video director Samuel Bayer, and will see a release in 2010.
the 1st and only good news i’ve heard about this remake. I think the director of “the Uninvited” should direct. The style of that movie was similar to the 1st nightmare.
I think they should continue on with the Nightmare On Elmstreet series and make an eighth installment instead of remaking the first one.
