Star Trek debuts in Sydney to rave reviews

J.J. Abrams insanely anticipated Star Trek reboot debuted at the Sydney Opera House last night to a rapturous audience and rave reviews.

Abrams joined stars Chris Pine, Eric Bana, Zachary Quinto, John Cho and Karl Urban on the red carpet at the film’s world premiere.

Paramount Pictures are staggering the unveiling of the 11th Star Trek film across the globe before its worldwide release in May.

Although Sydney was privy to the ‘official’ premiere, lucky Texans were given the very first look at the film in its entirety several hours prior.

When Trekkers turned up to the famous Alamo Drafthouse in Austin to watch The Wrath of Khan, they were treated to far more than they expected. Leonard Nimoy, as well as the latest film’s producer Damon Lindelof and writers Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci turned up to screen the new film for fans. Fans who I hate, because they have seen Star Trek, and I haven’t.

Slashfilm have compiled a bunch of reviews and tweets from the two screenings, and the opinion seems to be unanimous: STXI is the bee’s knees.

Call me crazy, but I’ll be placing Star Trek as the highest grossing film of the American summer in our office pool. Star Trek bursts into Australian cinemas May 7th.
