Sam Rockwell freaks out on the Moon

The trailer for Sam Rockwell‘s upcoming sci-fi thriller Moon has debuted on-line, and it looks like we may have a contender for movie of the year on our hands.

Directed by Duncan Jones (son of David Bowie), Moon tells the story of astronaut Sam Bell (Rockwell), who supposedly has a mental breakdown as he comes to the end of his lonesome three-year stay on the moon. The film also stars the voice of Kevin Spacey as a very Hal-like computer system.

The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year, and emerged from the Park City festival with deafening buzz. Moon currently holds a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I don’t know what I love more – Sam Rockwell (one of the best and most underrated actors working today) or Space Thrillers. Moon looks like it takes its cue from the greats: Alien, 2001, Solaris, Sunshine (still my favourite Danny Boyle film). Having now seen the trailer, this flick has rocketed to the top of my list of must-see films of 2009. But not above Up. That movie is going to be pimp.

Moon opens September 3rd across Australia.
