Burton’s Alice in Wonderland will literally scare your children to death

source: slashfilm.com

Earlier this week, the first (terrifying) photos from Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland debuted online. Now Slashfilm have the high resolution versions to savor, and email to your worst/most sensitive enemies.

The images are, in a word, spectacular. In my opinion, Burton has been spinning his wheels for the greater part of this decade, producing great set design as opposed to great films. However, if these demented candy-cane portraits are any indication, perhaps we will be looking at a Beetlegeuse-esque classic!

The above portraits feature Aussie Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as The Mad (No, Really Mad) Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as The White Queen. Please click on the images to get your hi-res on.

In this image you can see Tweedledee and Tweedledum, who will both be portrayed by Little Britain‘s Matt Lucas.

And finally, although it’s almost impossible to tell, The White Rabbit in the above picture will be portrayed by the great Michael Sheen.

In related news, a leaked script of the film has indicated that Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is in fact a sequel to the beloved Lewis Carroll story. In the Linda Woolverton-penned script, Alice is now 17 and engaged to a suitor. The White Rabbit re-enters her life and brings her back down the rabbit hole to help the creatures of Wonderland. However, Alice cannot remember a thing from her first trip. Can she help them?

Alice in Wonderland will be released March 2010 (in 3D no less)!

Discuss: Does Burton have another classic in him? Has he lost it? Did he ever have it?

  1. burton is the king of animated macabre. i cant WAIT for this movei to come out!

  2. Kooky, freaky, and visually stunning; I think this movie is going to be incredible. Looking forward to it.

  3. I look forward to the trailers to see how scary it is, but…/grammar_nazi/…when you use the term "literally" as in "literally scare your children to death" – you realise you mean that it will, in fact, kill your children. Not just scare them a lot, but actually kill them. That's what "literal" means. But it gets used incorrectly so often as hyperbole these days that it's no longer "literal". Which means that over time it becomes meaningless. Stop it. Please.//grammar_nazi/

  4. Em, I do know what 'literally' means. Thankyou for sucking the humour out of what was meant to be an ironic and funny headline.

  5. I can't wait either. Burton has such a warped view of stuff, so unusual that it's brilliant!P.S. I liked the author's headline 🙂

  6. I have no idea what people here are on about…did burton ever have it, has he lost it….sheesh people…have you SEEN Sweeny Todd? It was a freakin masterpiece!!!
