The first feature length trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s illegal-alien (and I mean alien) thriller District 9 has invaded the interwebs.
When last we spoke of District 9, we were applauding the ingenuity of the teaser trailer which featured a blurry interrogation of some bug-like alien.
However, having seen the trailer in several packed cinemas, it was disconcerting to notice how the audience would erupt into laughter everytime the alien was revealed.
I have a feeling this new trailer will promptly shut the laughing masses right up.
Check it out and let us know what you think!

I’ve still not quite worked out how the Cloverfield-style documentary style is being mixed in with regular cinematography, but I’m happy to be surprised when we finally see the finished product in cinemas next month.
In our last report, we noted that Blomkamp was in the running to helm the long-gestating Halo film before moving on to District 9. Based on the glimpses of action and Mech Warrior-style set pieces in this trailer, it looks like this film might be one giant audition tape for that Halo movie after all.
District 9 is produced by Peter Jackson, and will debut August 15 in Australian cinemas everywhere.
Discuss: I think we can assume based on this trailer alone that Blomkamp has made a better sci-fi action film than Michael Bay. But does District 9 have genuine box office draw? Will you go see it opening weekend?
