Gentleman, I’d like to introduce you to the new indie ingénue we will all be crushing on for the remainder of 2009. Her name is Carey Mulligan, and she is the star of the Sundance hit An Education. And hey, we’ve even got a new trailer, and she’s all over it!
Set in 1961, An Education is about a 16-year-old schoolgirl named Jenny (newcomer Carey Mulligan), on the brink of womanhood and raring to escape her stifling life in London. She falls in love with 30-something David (Peter Sarsgaard), who is a charming, if unlikely suitor. Will she leave London for Oxford University and have the life she always dreamed of, or will David tempt her away?

The flick comes from director Lone Scherfig and first-time screenwriter/best-selling author Nick Hornby. It nabbed the Audience Award and Cinematography prize at Sundance earlier this year, and is now being positioned for awards consideration with a late-2009 release.
An Education is exactly the kind of smaller film that will benefit from the Academy’s decision to increase the Best Picture field to ten nominees.
But who cares about all that Oscar-nonsense? We can’t stop thinking about Carey’s button-esque cuteness! And don’t worry ladies; it wouldn’t be a true Peter Sarsgaard performance if he didn’t get his kit off at some point.
Check out some extra clips from our Sundance report earlier this year!
An Education hits Australian cinemas October 22nd.
Discuss: Zooey v. Carey! Who ya got!
How dare you blaspheme against the goddess Zooey! Repent!
Zooey Schmooey!Carey is the one and only Sally Sparrow from 'Blink' (Dr Who). She's utterly wonderful.
