There are some crazy musical chairs going on behind the scenes of The Farrelly Brothers‘ Three Stooges film. The original cast of Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro has been significantly altered, with Paul Giamatti replacing Penn and Carrey potentially dropping out.
Peter Farrelly told The Names Blog that Paul Giamatti will take over from Sean Penn and portray Larry Howard. Penn bailed on the project back in June citing personal reasons.
Farrelly also said that Carrey was no longer playing Curly, despite having gained around 40 pounds for the role.
Benicio Del Toro is still slated to play Moe Howard.
The film is not a biopic on the famous trio, but instead a brand new comic adventure featuring their oddball characters.
The project is still expected to begin production later this year, with a release date set in 2010. If these casting issues continue, expect the release date to be delayed.
Discuss: So, how long till Benicio bails?
