GI Joe sequel is coming

Brace yourselves. GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra survived the onslaught of bad buzz and worse reviews to score a $US100 million opening weekend worldwide. And we all know what that means: sequel.

Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore told the LA Times Blog that a sequel will soon go into development.

He also stated that although the lead actor’s were all contractually obligated to return for another film, director Stephen Sommers was not.

Moore did not reveal what the story surrounding the next GI Joe film would be. However, this would be in keeping with the first film. After all, if Rise of the Cobra had a storyline, I certainly didn’t catch it?

Despite the $US100 million opening weekend, GI Joe is not out of the rough yet. Analysts predict a sharp decline in its second week, particularly as it goes up against the highly acclaimed sci-fi film District 9. It may not be able to recoup its combined production and marketing budget of $US315 million.

Discuss: What did you think of GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra? Does it deserve a sequel?

One Response to “GI Joe sequel is coming”

  1. I was a big fan as a kid and really looked forward to this movie. Yeah.. wasn't the greatest but still nice to see come to the big screen. I think it deserves more than one sequel cuz we've only touched on the basics. We need to see more of cobra commander, destro's silver face, zartan's ability to change faces, more joes, the list goes on. Yo Joe!
