Mulligan! 20th Century Fox have announced that they will reboot the Fantastic Four franchise.
Hired to pen the new Fantastic Four movie is Michael Green, co-executive producer of Heroes and screenwriter of the upcoming Green Lantern film.
Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) will take over as producer.
Fox previously ventured into the legend of the classic Marvel characters with 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. It is unclear whether or not director Tim Story or stars Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis will return for the new film.
News of the reboot comes just as Disney announced a $4 billion purchase of Marvel and their 5,000 character library. With this new deal, 20th Century Fox have managed to hold onto The Thing, The Human Torch, Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman for a few years more.
Discuss: Did anyone actually like the first two Fantastic Four films? And do we need a new one in the wake of The Incredibles?
Yep – it was me. I've got them both at home and while they're not perfect I enjoy them for the lighter superhero movies they are. Batman has his charm but rubber suits and deep voices is so 1990s. I think Julian McMahon is cast perfectly and the others all suit the characters quite well.
