Nicolas Cage has turned down the opportunity to portray the villain in The Green Hornet. The irony being of course that Nicolas Cage NEVER TURNS DOWN ANYTHING!
It was revealed in July that Nicolas Cage was being considered to portray the gangster villain in the Michel Gondry-directed film.
Star, writer and co-producer Seth Rogen confirmed at Comic Con that they were “actively pursuing” Cage for the role.
I guess they weren’t “pursuing” him “actively” enough.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cage and studio Columbia Pictures could not come to a deal. This means that they are now on the hunt for a new villain.
Principal photography began last week in Los Angeles, although no scenes had been shot with Cage.
The film has had its fair share of casting hiccups over the past 12 months. Here’s hoping that a replacement can be found soon enough for this exciting project.
The Green Hornet co-stars Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou. It will hit Australian cinemas December 2010.
Discuss: OK, another case of casting-musical chairs for this seemingly cursed film. Are we still excited?
