A Christmas Carol trailer debut!

The feature length trailer for Robert Zemeckis‘ adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens tale A Christmas Carol has finally debuted online.

The film stars Jim Carrey as curmudgeonly Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited on Christmas Eve by three ghosts warning him of the consequences of his wicked ways.

Zemeckis has spent the better part of the decade refining the motion-capture technology he will employ in A Christmas Carol. His first experiment came with 2004’s The Polar Express, in which Tom Hanks played multiple characters. The technology wasn’t nearly refined enough and the characters all had dead, lifeless eyes. Needless to say, it creeped everyone out.

His 2007 flick Beowulf showed significant advancement and from the looks of A Christmas Carol, there have been even greater advances over the past two years.

It will be interesting to see if the film is a success when it hits cinemas in November. A lot is riding on Carrey, who plays three different versions of Scrooge (young, middle-aged and elderly) as well as the three different ghosts.

A Christmas Carol is set for release in Australian cinemas November 5, 2009. It will be screened in 3D at selected cinemas.

Discuss: Six Jim Carrey’s in the one film – good idea?
