Nikke Finke claims that Christoph Waltz is set to replace Nicolas Cage as the villain in Michel Gondry‘s vigilante flick The Green Hornet.
UPDATE: Variety have confirmed it! Great success!
Waltz became the breakout star of the year by playing the villainous ‘Jew Hunter’ Col. Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglourious Basterds. That’s right. The hottest young movie star of ’09 is 52 years old.
Although there has been no official announcement, Finke says the deal is done. And she’s rarely wrong. Waltz would play a gangster named Chudnofsky who tangles with The Green Hornet.
Cage never officially signed on to play the role in the film and officially withdrew his interest in the project last week.
The film stars Seth Rogen as The Green Hornet, Jay Chou as his sidekick Kato and Cameron Diaz as Rogen’s love interest.
The screenplay was written by Rogen and his Superbad-writing partner Evan Goldberg.
Production began two weeks ago. The finished film will hit Australian cinemas December 2010.
