Captain Kirk to play Jack Ryan?

Chris Pine is in talks with Paramount Pictures to star as Jack Ryan in an upcoming reboot of the franchise based on the popular Tom Clancy novels.

Pine became one of the breakout stars of 2009 by starring as Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. AbramsStar Trek.

Trek, also produced by Paramount Pictures, went on to gross $384 million worldwide, assisted no doubt by Pine’s charming lead performance.

It’s no surprise then that Paramount want Pine to take the lead in one of their fledgling franchises.

The script for the new Jack Ryan flick is still being worked on and is reportedly based on an original concept.

It is unknown whether or not the film will enter production before Pine returns to the Enterprise for Star Trek 2.

Jack Ryan has previously been played by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears).

Pine will next be seen in the Tony Scott thriller Unstoppable alongside Denzel Washington and recently agreed to star in D.J. Caruso‘s The Art of Making Money.

One Response to “Captain Kirk to play Jack Ryan?”

  1. I have read quite a few of the Jack Ryan novels and I don't think Ryan should be played by a younger actor. It just doesn't fit into the character that was developed by Tom Clancy. Especially considering he was first played by Alec Baldwin and then Harrison Ford, who were both older than Affleck and Pine will be at the time. I heard Clooney was rumoured to be the next Jack Ryan and for me, that would have fit perfectly.
