This week, Richard Kershaw raved about the best vampire film of the past few years, Let the Right One In. For his troubles, he picked up a double pass to a preview screening of Paranormal Activity. You can win free movie tickets just like her by sending your mini-reviews to us here at Quickflix!
In 2008 there were two films about a kid and the relationship they have with a vampire. One of them was Twilight and the other was this film. LTROI is like Twilight except it’s 10,000x creepier and does not suck (pun truly intended). This is the story of a lonely 12 year old boy in Sweden who becomes friends with the “girl” next door who just happens to be a 200 year old vampire. Unlike those p*ssy Twilight Vampires this “girl” actually chows down on human blood and actually kills her victims. Now that’s a real Vampire. Anyway this film is great. You feel for the characters (unlike that other Vampire film). It’s genuinely creepy and scary at times. The vampires in this film don’t sparkle like some fairy when exposed to sunlight in this film. In one amazing scene they literally turn into the Human Torch. There are also some terrifying and quite frankly disturbing visuals as well. In conclusion this is a awesome film but beware: it’s not for the faint hearted. Remember just because it has kids in it that does not mean it’s a kid’s film. Show a kid this and they will be scarred for life.

I don't see why these two movies get compared all the time. They are completely different genres.LTROI is a horror and Twilight is a love story. Twilight may have vampires in it, but it's success has nothing to do with vampires. There's been an overload a film companies making vampire films, trying to cash in on Twilight's success, but this is just missing the point. These girls don't love vampires, they love powerful, protective, vulnerable, intimate, and attractive guys. What Twilight does make me wonder though is why there are so few movies aimed solely at girls. Most movies seem to be aimed at teenage boys, but girls are much more faithful and obsessive consumers once they become dedicated to something. If you think back into the past, nearly all the best selling products were ones that catered to girls -things like Hanson or Spice Girls last decade.Twilight's success shows how desperate girls are for movies of their own.
