The Runaways trailer debut!

source: youtube.com

The Twilight Saga’s New Moon stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning have teamed up for the rock’n’roll biopic The Runaways in which they play Joan Jett and Cherie Currie respectively. Wouldn’t you know it, you can watch the teaser trailer below!

The film is based on Currie’s book Neon Angel and will be directed by Italian music video director and fashion photographer Floria Sigismondi (this is just a project full of women with awesome names).

The Runaways will focus on the relationship between Currie and Jett during their rise to fame in the early 1970’s.

Check out the teaser trailer below and let us know your thoughts!

Although they’ve been stifled by the talent-free void that is the Twilight franchise for the past couple of years, it’s important to remember that both Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning are supremely talented actresses. If Sigismondi doesn’t shy away from the real-life drama of The Runaways (including the drug and alcohol abuse that consumed Currie), this flick could be a real winner.

Also, Anne Thompson learned this week that the film will be rated R in the United States thanks to a girl-on-girl kiss between Fanning and Stewart. OK.

The Runaways also stars Michael Shannon, Scout Taylor-Compton and Alia Shawkat. It premieres at the Sundance Film Festival early-2010 and debuts in the U.S. on the 19th of March. An Australian release will hopefully follow soon after.

Discuss: Whilst Kristen Stewart is 19 years old, I feel I should point out that Dakota Fanning is still just 15. OK, with that in mind, are you looking forward to The Runaways?

  1. I'm looking forward to this but mainly because of Floria Sigismondi's involvement, check out some of her music videos. More details about the movie here http://bit.ly/6FrZbn
