Rotten Tomatoes best and worst reviewed films of 2009

source: rottentomatoes.com

Rotten Tomatoes has handed out their 11th Annual Golden Tomato Awards, recognising the best reviewed films of 2009.

The site provides an aggregate score based on the film’s reviews. For instance, if a film receives a score of 99%, it means 99% of critics on the site gave the film a positive write-up. (It’s slightly more complicated than that, but that is the basic gist).

The films are divided into various lists, including wide release, limited release (films released on less than 500 screens in the U.S.) and then by genre.

Discuss: I know the ranking and the percentages don’t quite add up; that’s because RT use a weighted system that is very confusing. I’m sure it works accurately; I just have no idea how they figure it out. Regardless, what did you think of the results?

  1. "In the Loop" got better reviews than "The Hangover?" No wonder I hardly ever pay attention to critics…

  2. For what it's worth, I thought In the Loop was far far far far far far funnier than The Hangover. I also thought the following comedies were funnier than The Hangover: Adventureland, Zombieland, I Love You Man, Observe and Report, 500 Days of Summer, Drag Me To Hell, A Serious Man and Up.

  3. I haven't seen In The Loop or Adventureland, but for the record I agree that all the other movies Simon listed were funnier than The Hangover, which I thought was very funny, but also WILDLY over-rated. I'd also throw in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The Brothers Bloom as funnier
