Ryan Reynolds goes underground in Buried

One of the more exciting films to debut at Sundance this year is the Ryan Reynolds‘ thriller Buried, directed by Spaniard Rodrigo Cortes.

Reynolds stars as a U.S. contractor in Iraq who is taken hostage and buried alive in a coffin, armed with only a knife, a torch, and a mobile phone.

The film has been generating interest around the blogosphere since it was announced last year, and will finally make its world premiere this week at Sundance.

Check out the teaser trailer below and let us know your thoughts.

In an interview with The Playlist last year, Reynolds confirmed that he would be the only person in the movie.

“‘Buried’ is the story about a guy who’s buried (laughs). It’s the only movie I’ve ever heard of with only one person in it. So it’s just me, I’m the only person in the whole movie so, I don’t know, we’ll see. It’s either going to be, you know, the greatest, most experimental cool movie ever made or god knows what,” he said.

According to the film’s IMDB page, there are other actors credited. One of those actors is Stephen Tobolowsky, who has previously stated on his podcast that his role is simply as a voice on Reynolds phone. Perhaps this is the extent the other actors will appear.

Regardless, the trailer indicates an intense and very intriguing film. We look forward to hearing the reviews trickle in from its Park City debut.

Discuss: Buried underground with Ryan Reynolds for 90 minutes. There are worse fates in the world I’m sure.

  1. It'll be nice to see Reynolds play something other than the wisecracking character (hopefully!) he's played in every movie/show so far.
