OK, so maybe John Krasinski WON’T be Captain America…

No sooner do I hit “publish” on an article about John Krasinski being a shoe-in for the role of Captain America, does Mike Fleming at Deadline announce that he is no longer even in the running.

According to the report, Marvel have expanded their search for the star of their latest comic adaptation The First Avenger: Captain America.

Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Sunshine) is now a leading contender, alongside Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) and Garret Hedlund (TRON: Legacy). Vogel and Hedlund previously appeared on the shortlist of actors that emerged late February. Hedlund didn’t test for the role in the original run, citing scheduling difficulties. Deadline now claim that his reps were none too pleased at the idea of him signing up for a (relatively) measly salary of $US300,000, as well as Marvel locking him in for nine future films.

So, is it really all over for Krasinski? I guess at this point, it’s a case of ‘who do you trust more’? Deadline’s insiders, or Fox 411‘s?

News as it develops…

The First Avenger: Captain America, directed by Joe Johnston, opens July 22nd, 2011. Production is expected to begin in June.

Discuss: So, who would you like to see take on the role?

  1. Yeah just read this over at Total Film. I reckon Aaron Eckhart would make a good Captain America, he's def got the blonde floppy hair and chiselled jaw, plus if he beefed up he could pull off the whole super soldier thing. I'm intrigued by the possibility of Mike Vogel, thought he was great in Cloverfield and def a worthy contender for Cap Am
