The Green Lantern’s suit to be computer generated?

Peter Sciretta over at Slashfilm has a massive scoop regarding Martin Campbell‘s upcoming take on the legendary comic hero The Green Lantern. According to Sciretta’s sources, star Ryan Reynolds will not actually don the famous green suit during the production of the film – it will instead be created through CG.

Reynolds – starring as test pilot Hal Jordon/ring-bearing intergalactic cop The Green Lantern – is supposedly wearing a “grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights” instead of a traditional costume. The CG suit is being overseen by Oscar winning costume designer Ngila Dickson.

It is unknown whether or not Reynold’s entire body will be CG when in the suit, or if his face will appear on the CG body.

The Green Lantern also stars Peter Sarsgaard as the villainous Dr. Hector Hammond and Blake Lively as love interest Carol Ferris.

Head on over to Slashfilm to read some more details on the costume and a couple of other tidbits from the set of The Green Lantern, which is currently shooting in New Orleans. It is set to hit cinemas June 17, 2011.

Discuss: So, what do we think of this?
