Smith and Jones to return for Men in Black 3

After months of speculation, director Barry Sonnenfeld has confirmed that Men in Black 3 will indeed go into production … wait for it, in 3D! What a unique and interesting novelty! Sonnenfeld broke the (barely surprising) news to Showbiz 411.

Will Smith has signed on to reprise his role as Agent J in Men in Black 3-D. Sonnenfeld also states that Tommy Lee Jones will be back as Agent K, although we’ve heard no news of Jones being ‘officially’ locked down.

Roger Friedman at Showbiz speculates that Sony is in desperate need for a big blockbuster to take the May 2011 spot once held by the now defunct Spider-Man 4. The question is, with the script still being written, will they be able to pump this baby out in time?

There have been a couple of intriguing casting rumors surrounding the project. At one point, Josh Brolin was tipped to play a young Agent K. Sacha Baron Cohen and Jemaine Clement are supposedly competing for the role of Yaz (who we can safely assume is probably an alien).

Discuss: Are you ready for another Men in Black film? Or rather, are you ready for another one of Smith’s inevitable theme songs?
