Bill Condon to direct Breaking Dawn

Summit Entertainment have confirmed that director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters) will helm the final installment of The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn.

It was reported back in March that Summit were courting Oscar-caliber directors for Breaking Dawn, including Condon, Sophia Coppola and Gus Van Sant .

Condon won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 1998 for Gods and Monsters, and was nominated again in 2002 for his Chicago script.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the longstanding rumour that Breaking Dawn will be split into two movies remains just that. Although the book will likely make it to cinemas in two separate parts, signing the actors for a fifth film will prove to be tricky (and expensive) considering their career trajectory.

EW also speculates the possibility of Breaking Dawn being 3-D. Although Summit want the film released as soon as is humanly possible, the allure of 3-D beckons. We’d most likely be looking at a quick, last-minute 3-D conversion, if anything.

But back to Condon, who had this to say about joining the saga:

“I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book – and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience.”

From what we’ve heard about the crazy business that takes place in Breaking Dawn, “one-of-a-kind” is an understatement. Enjoy that pay check Bill! Now, can you say “Renesmee”?

Discuss: Does Condon’s involvement in The Twilight Saga sound enticing? Or was the prospect of watching (SPOILER ALERT!) a vampire perform a C-section with his teeth interesting enough?
