The Rundown: April 28 – May 5

Hey Quickflixers! Welcome to the latest installment of The Rundown. It’s a regular feature that will appear on the blog every Wednesday, highlighting our favourite news items from the past 7 days, as well as notable box office and weekly rental figures. (And before you say it, in a world where Hey Hey, It’s Saturday can air on a Wednesday night, we can DEFINITELY do our wrap-up in the middle of the week!)

So, what did we learn this week?

What, aside from a whole bunch of new and exciting puns? Well, it was STAR WARS DAY yesterday (May the 4th be with you – geddit?) and to celebrate, here is a video of Darth Vader dancing to U Can’t Touch This.

Bill Condon (Oscar winner Bill Condon) will direct Breaking Dawn, the final film of The Twilight Saga. It will hit cinemas November 18, 2011. Conversely, this will be the date when we can all state that we have seen a grown man fall in love with a baby.

We discovered that Christopher Nolan will deliver the final film of his Batman trilogy on the 20th of July, 2012. Sadly, we also found out that Sylvester Stallone will retire his beloved character John Rambo – presumably because he killed everyone else in the world at the conclusion of the last film.

We salivated over Ang Li’s Life of Pi, wept over the possibility of Clash of the Titans 2, and celebrated the impending Australian release of Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop.

Keep this one on the QT: it seems that we will see a teaser for J.J. Abrams’ latest project later this week (which may or may not be related to Cloverfield).

Finally, we said goodbye to two-time Oscar nominee Lynn Redgrave.
