Rising stars claim AIF’s Breakthrough Awards and Heath Ledger Scholarship

Australians in Film have recognised up-and-coming stars Ryan Kwanten, Chris Hemsworth and Bella Heathcoate at a ceremony in Beverly Hills, California.

AIF is a Los Angeles-based organisation for expat Aussies working in the entertainment industry. Not only do they recognise the best and brightest young Australian talents, but they also award a prestigious scholarship in the name of the late Academy Award-winning actor Heath Ledger.

Kwanten (True Blood, Red Hill) and Hemsworth (Thor, Star Trek) were honoured for their breakthrough performances on both the big and small screen.

Heathcote (Beneath Hill 60) was introduced by Colin Farrell as this year’s recipient of the Heath Ledger Scholarship. She will receive $10,000, a round-trip Qantas airfare from Australia as well as a Showcast/Breakdown Services VIP casting package. The young Melbourne actress is only the second person to receive the honour; the scholarship was awarded to Oliver Ackland (The Proposition) in 2009.

Scholarship runners-up include Adelaide Clemens, Eamon Farren & Craig Stott, while honourable mentions were given to Nathin Butler, Sebastian Gregory, Bianca Linton, Victoria Thaine, Morgan Wells and Henry Wells Nixon. All 10 finalists received year-long subscriptions with Quickflix.

Discuss: Quickflix is proud to be a sponsor of the Heath Ledger Scholarship, and wishes the best of luck to everyone mentioned above!
