Thanks to happy-snappers over at the Cannes film festival, we have our first glimpse of Naomi Watts as Norma Jean/Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming biopic Blonde.
No, that’s not it. Sadly, the image of Watts as Monroe is a little less hi-res (Thanks to AlloCine for the snap regardless). Check her out below.
Blonde is based on the novel by Joyce Carole Oates, and will be directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford).
I’m a big fan of Dominik, and it hardly needs to be said that Watts is a fine actress. This could end up being the definitive take on Marilyn’s life.
The project was only announced this past week at Cannes, so no release date yet.
Interestingly, Michelle Williams (another great actress) is in negotiations to also star as Monroe in a film set to depict her time in England while filming 1957’s The Prince and the Showgirl with Laurence Olivier. Simon Curtis is set to direct.
Discuss: Williams vs. Watts. Who ya got?
