Dominic Cooper to play Iron Man’s dad in Captain America?

Damn these Captain America rumours, forcing me to end every headline with a question mark! Dominic Cooper has supposedly revealed that he will play Howard Stark (father of Tony/Iron Man) in the upcoming Captain America movie.

Cooper let the tidbit slip to Salon whilst promoting his upcoming film Tamara Drewe. However, it all happened when the microphone was turned off, so there is no quote to back it up.

Howard Stark was first seen in Iron Man 2, with John Slatterly taking on the paternal role.

Slashfilm had previously reported that Howard Stark would turn up in Captain America: The First Avenger. Of course, he needs to be played by a younger man considering that part of the film takes place during World War 2.

Cooper (maybe) joins fellow English rose Hayley Atwell (as Captain America’s love interest) and U.K raised Hugo Weaving (as the villainous Red Skull).

Oh, and Chris Evans is still playing the Captain…for now.

Captain America: The First Avenger is currently being rewritten by Joss Whedon and will be directed by Joe Johnston. It will hit cinemas July 2011.

Discuss: Cooper as Howard Stark – a fitting father to Robert Downey Jr?
