Will Charles Grodin reteam with De Niro for Midnight Run 2?

Charles Grodin is being courted by Universal Pictures and Tribeca Productions to reteam with Robert De Niro for a sequel to their classic 1988 comedy Midnight Run.

De Niro is producing the sequel, in which he will return as bounty hunter Jack Walsh. When screenwriter Tim Dowling was originally hired to pen the screenplay, it was planned that Walsh would be on the hunt for Grodin’s character The Duke’s son.

However, Grodin told Mike Fleming at Deadline that he might be invited to star in the film also.

“I’ve been led to believe by someone I won’t name that they will ask me and I will consider it.”

The film’s original director Martin Brest and screenwriter George Gallo will likely be involved as producers.

It has been seventeen years since Grodin stepped out of the limelight, moving away from movies and focusing his attention on his family. Although he has popped up in small roles over the past couple of years, it would be nice to see him return to a leading role.

Grodin also revealed to Deadline that he had turned down offers to work on the new Muppet movie, as well as a couple of projects involving Brett Ratner and Adam Sandler.

Discuss: Would you like to see Jack and The Duke back in action?
