Michael Fassbender has cast the die and accepted the role of Erik Lensherr (a.k.a. Magneto) in Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class. Showbiz 411 have confirmed that Fassbender picked the role over that of the lead-villain in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.
Michael Fassbender is, without a doubt, one of the best and most exciting actors working today. He blew us away in Steve McQueen‘s Hunger and Andrea Arnold‘s Fish Tank, and became the all-time most badass on-screen movie critic in Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglourious Basterds.
He’s now being courted by two major studios for starring roles in their respective Marvel comic adaptations. According to Showbiz 411, Fox want him to join Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class as a young Magneto (alongside James McAvoy‘s young Professor X). Meanwhile, Sony want him to play the as-yet unnamed villain in their Marc Webb-directed Spider-Man reboot.
Both begin production very soon, so it’s unlikely that Fassbender could take both (very appealing) roles. Highlander style, there can only be one.
