Sony have finally revealed the young actor who will star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in their upcoming reboot of the blockbuster comic franchise. Provided you haven’t already read the headline of this article, or glanced at the picture below, let’s have a drum role for ………… Andrew Garfield!
Garfield was long-rumoured to take over the role made famous by Tobey Maguire – although, so was every other young actor in Hollywood. The report comes from THR.
You may have seen Garfield as the star of the first instalment of the acclaimed Red Riding trilogy, or as a young vagrant in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. He will next be seen in David Fincher’s The Social Network and Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go (two of the most exciting films of 2010). Needless to say, he’s a talented actor, and certainly deserving of the red-and-black suit.
At 26 years old, Garfield perhaps seemed like too old a choice for Spidey. Director Marc Webb and Sony intend for their Spider-Man reboot to skew younger, and take Peter Parker back to high school. We can only assume that (the admittedly youthful-looking) Garfield won’t be playing his age.
UPDATE! You can now watch Webb and producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin introduce their new Spider-Man to the world (courtesy of Collider). Garfield looks rather shocked – he apparently was only told that he received the role moments earlier

Discuss: Garfield. Good choice?
