The third instalment of the Twilight saga enjoyed the 8th biggest opening weekend in Australian box office history. Impressive as its $13 million tally may be, it wasn’t enough to best New Moon, which collected $16 million in its first weekend and holds the record for biggest opening. Toy Story and Shrek showed strong legs as they entered the school holiday season, as did The Karate Kid (which only opened in three states). Even Marmaduke saw a school holiday bump! Get Him To The Greek continues to outperform MA-rated comedies, not including Sex and the City 2 (but that doesn’t really classify as a “comedy”). Animal Kingdom rounded out the top 10, dipping a mere 26% in its 5th week of release.
