Sucker Punch character posters debut!

Warner Bros have unveiled a bunch of character posters from Zack Snyder‘s Sucker Punch, an action epic that he describes as “‘Alice in Wonderland’ with machine guns“.

The film stars Australia’s own Emily Browning as Babydoll, a young girl who uses her imagination to escape from the mental institution in which she is confined. Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone and Vanessa Hudgens all star as fellow inmates who are trying to help her literally escape from the asylum where she is wrongly imprisoned. The film also stars Carla Gugino, Scott Glenn and Jon Hamm.

The film was originally budgeted at around US$100 million, and was set to star Amanda Seyfried, Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone. However, Slashfilm suspect that the financial failure of Snyder’s Watchmen had WB bean-counters slashing the budget and forcing Snyder to employ some unknowns.

The posters are pretty provocative, which is fitting for a Snyder film. Click each to embiggen!

Head on over to Slashfilm to check out to see some of the film’s maquettes being showcased at Comic Con.

Sucker Punch debuts March 25, 2011 in the U.S. with an Australian release to hopefully follow. We will see his first animated feature Legend of the Guardians in cinemas December 9, 2010.

Discuss: This will be the first of Snyder’s films to be based upon one of his own original ideas. Likelihood of success?
