Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark teaser trailer debut

The very creepy (and very cheeky) teaser trailer for the Guillermo del Toro-produced thriller Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark has debuted online. If the concept ‘Pan’s Labyrinth meets The Others‘ appeals to you, read on.

The Troy Nixey-directed film stars Bailee Madison as a young girl who moves in with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes), only to discover that a bunch of creatures also share their abode.

A remake of the 1973 TV-movie of the same name, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark was filmed in Melbourne, and written by Del Toro and Matthew Robbins.

The teaser (featured below in all its embeddable glory) screened at Comic Con last month to much acclaim and collective fanboy drooling. It is now available for online perusal courtesy of MySpace. MySpace? How quaint!

You have to respect a horror film that scores an American ‘R’ rating, especially considering Del Toro’s claim that the film features no sex, gore or profanity.

If Del Toro’s credentials weren’t enough to impress, the inclusion of Bailee Madison in the cast should pique your interest. She blew us away in Brothers. Look out Chloe Moretz!

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark hits Australian cinemas January 27, 2011.

Discuss: Does Del Toro dabble too deeply in the realm of fantasy to create something truly scary?
