Scott Pilgrm vs The Animation!

If you’ve been following this blog at all over the past couple of years, you may have noticed our tendency to report on even the most mundane developments from the set of Scott Pilgrim vs The World (and that includes any vaguely interesting marketing materials too). The film may be less than one week away from release, but why should that keep us from continuing the trend!

Slashfilm have debuted a brief snippet from an upcoming Scott Pilgrim animated short produced by the folks at [adult swim]. The sequence is taken from the beginning of the second volume of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim comic series (there are six volumes in all). It clearly takes its cues from O’Malley’s visual style.

The four-minute animation is a flashback/fantasy sequence of Scott’s that has been excised from Edgar Wright‘s film. Michael Cera and Alison Pill voice Scott Pilgrim and Kim Pine respectively in the cartoon, reprising their characters from the film. Mae Whitman and Jason Schwartzman provide the vocal chords for Lisa (a minor character who we suspect has been cut from the live-action film) and the evil Simon Lee (the antagonist of this short segment).

Scott Pilgrim vs The World (the live action one) hits Australian cinemas August 12, 2010.
