Take this one with a pinch of salt, but Slashfilm are reporting that Star Trek director J.J. Abrams is gearing up for a collaboration with South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho.
The rumour is fairly light on details, but it is suspected that Abrams will produce the Bong-directed feature.
Bong previously helmed two of the best films of the past decade, Memories of Murder and The Host. Both films (as well as his most recent project Mother) combine physical comedy with crushing drama. As Slashfilm suggest, this combination may be impossible to replicate in American cinema. But hey, nothing ventured nothing gained!
Bong is currently working on an adaptation of the French graphic novel Snow Piercer, while Abrams is busy taking care of Super 8 (whatever the hell that is anyway). They will (supposedly) begin work on Bong’s first American production after these projects have wrapped.
