Danny McBride and Rhys Darby headhunted for The Office

Producers of The Office have reached out to some brilliant comic actors to fill the hole left by Steve Carell when he leaves Dunder Mifflin at the end of next season.

EW have confirmed that Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down) and Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords) – both specialists in stilted, awkward humour – have been asked if they would be interested in the role of a new salesperson at the titular office.

Showrunner Paul Lieberstein says that the “new salesperson” may not necessarily take over the role of manager from Carell’s Michael Scott. Good news, Dwight fans!

Discuss: It’s still early days, so we won’t know for a little while who the new recruit at the Scranton branch will be. Still, who would you like to see take over at The Office?
