J.J. Abrams to turn teaser trailer into feature film!

Remember the trailer for J.J. Abrams secret project that may or may not be a homage to the early films of Steven Spielberg? Well, the short teaser was such a hit, Abrams now intends to turn it into a film!

O.K., we’re being facetious. Still, this whole situation reminds us of the fake news story from The Onion: “Wildly Popular Iron Man Trailer To Be Adapted Into Full-Length Film”.

Abrams’ Super 8 will begin shooting September 2010 in Weirton, Virginia. According to the Weirton Virginia Gazette:

“Residents in Weirton Heights got letters informing them Paramount Pictures plans to shoot a movie called “Darlings” in their neighborhood. It revolves around a 14-year-old boy and is set in a steel town in 1979.”

Although Paramount Pictures have given the project the working title “Darlings”, Production Weekly confirmed that the film is indeed Abrams’ Super 8.

Slashfilm have linked the above plot description to a mysterious casting call released by Paramount late last week:

Seeking 13-14 year old Boys & Girls for the lead roles in a new Paramount feature film. No previous acting experience is necessary, but must have great energy and a wonderful sense of humor and thoughtfulness.

JOSH: Male 13-14. Josh is cute, but could be on the scrawny side – definitely not the school jock. Loveable, empathetic, smart and interesting. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.

COLLIN:Male 13-14. Slightly, or more than slightly, overweight. Collin is confident, driven, optimistic and a natural leader. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.

NATALIE:Female 13-14. A natural beauty – she is stunning, but not the “cheerleader” type. Strong and confident, but has an underlying sadness. Should have a Midwestern feel.

So there you have it. The pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. To read more about Super 8, and check out the trailer, head on over here.
