Sony have selected their new Spider-Man (it’s Andrew Garfield if you didn’t already know) which means that the hunt for Spidey’s love interest has begun.
According to THR’s HeatVision blog, there are at least six young actresses vying for Peter Parker’s affections.
They include:
Lily Collins (The Blind Side)
Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy)
Teresa Palmer (2:37)
Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later)
Emma Roberts (Valentine’s Day)
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World)
Intriguingly, the love interest in the Marc Webb -directed reboot of Spider-Man will not be Mary Jane as it was in Sam Raimi‘s trilogy (and played by Kirstin Dunst). The script pages given to the actresses did not come with character names. There is a possibility that they are auditioning for the role of Pete Parker’s other great love, Gwen Stacy (played by Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3), or perhaps a different character entirely.
THR remind us that the actresses are merely meeting with Webb and Garfield. These are not screentests. And as we’ve learnt many times this year, shortlists can change at the drop of a hat.
Spider-Man 3-D will arrive in cinemas July 3, 2012.
