2010 Emmy winners!

There was a changing of the guard at the 62nd Emmy awards this morning, with perennial favourites losing out to some beloved newcomers.

Host Jimmy Fallon opened the show with a rousing rendition of Born to Run. He was joined by the cast of Glee, Tina Fey and Jon Hamm.

Modern Family took home the Emmy for Best Comedy Series, ending 30 Rock‘s three-year streak. Not only did the show also win an Emmy for writing, Eric Stonestreet was named Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his work as the family’s gay son-in-law Cameron Tucker.

Although Modern Family’s fellow freshman Glee missed out on the top prize, star Jane Lynch was rewarded for her supporting turn as the track-suited Sue Sylvester. Creator Ryan Murphy won the Emmy for directing a comedy series.

Edie Falco ended Tina Fey‘s reign as the ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy’ queen by taking home the trophy for Nurse Jackie. The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons beat heavyweights Alec Baldwin, Steve Carell and Tony Shalhoub to the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy award.

Things were a bit more predictable over in the Drama categories. Mad Men won its third consecutive Outstanding Drama Series Emmy. It also picked up a writing award for its season three finale.

Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul won Outstanding Lead Actor and Supporting Actor in a Drama series respectively. Kyra Sedgwick took home the Lead Actress prize for The Closer, while Archia Panjabi was named Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Good Wife.

Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show collected its eighth consecutive Emmy for Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series.

Discuss: Thoughts? Although I was hoping for a Breaking Bad sweep, I’m glad to see Mad Men take the big prizes (even if it is only the second best show on TV).
