John Cusack to go Poe

John Cusack is set to play Edgar Allan Poe in James McTeigue‘s The Raven, a fictionalised account of the writer’s mysterious final days.

Cusack revealed the news via Twitter, with prose that fails to capture the profundity of the man he will soon embody:

“officiali- will play edgar allen poe in fall-a-film called the raven, send any poe- gold – my way as i begin this journey into the abyss”

According to Slashfilm, the film will supposedly feature Poe joining the hunt for a serial killer, leading to his very suspicious death. At the age of 40, the legendary poet was found on the streets of Baltimore muttering to himself and calling out for the unknown “Reynolds”. He later died in hospital, unable to explain what had happened. The cause of death is still unknown. Creepy.

Written by Ben Livingston and the awesomely named Hannah Shakespeare (although not as awesome as her being named Hannah Poe), The Raven has been described as a cross between Poe’s chilling poem of the same name and the thriller Se7en.

Discuss: I like Cusack, but how could this film possibly be better than The Simpsons‘ adaptation?
