Rick Moranis to return for Ghostbusters 3?

We’re still not convinced that Ghostbusters 3 is actually happening, but for the sake of tradition, here are some updates on the loooooong-gestating next instalment of the beloved comedy series.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Rick Moranis will come out of his self-imposed retirement to reprise the role of gawky Louis Tully in Ghostbusters 3. Moranis’ last live-action film role was 1997’s Honey We Shrunk Ourselves. He left the world of acting to raise his children following the death of his wife.

We’ve long known that Ghosbusters 3 will feature the original quartet handing over the reins of their paranormal-extermination agency to some young protégés. BD suggest Oscar – the (hinted at) love child of Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) from Ghostbusters 2 – will be one of the new recruits.

The last we heard from Murray on the project, he declared it “a crock” and showed little confidence in screenwriters Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. Here’s what he said about their last film: “Well, I never went to see Year One, but people who did, including other Ghostbusters, said it was one of the worst things they had ever seen in their lives.” The irony here is that Year One was directed by a Ghostbuster.

Still, Ivan Reitman insists he is directing the film, and until we hear him say the project is dead, we’ll keep the dream alive.

Discuss: Do you even want to see a GB sequel at this point?
