Pixar recently cancelled production on one of their upcoming projects, a romantic comedy titled Newt.
The film was set to mark the directorial debut of Oscar-winning sound designer Gary Rydstrom (he also helmed the short film Lifted which played before Ratatouille).
The official plot synopsis is as follows:
“What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other? Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science.”
Although the reasons for the projects abandonment are not known (perhaps they were struggling with the story; perhaps the film seemed too similar to rival project Alpha and Omega; perhaps more resources were needed on Monsters, Inc. 2), Pixar have shared some of the film’s artwork on their official Facebook page.
